You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about #GivingTuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a global movement, where folks can band together on a common day to support the organizations that help their community. Fueled by social media, it encourages people to share their favorite causes and encourage their friends to donate. Here at Habitat, we encourage you to take a look at Giving Tuesday’s website  and see how you can give back!

So in honor of Giving Tuesday, we’d like to share about how Habitat supports our local community.

Jay and Elizabeth have seen first-hand how Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability, and self-reliance for families. They, along with their ten-month old daughter, Abigail, moved into their new home at the end of October, just in time to celebrate the holidays.

“In a couple of weeks, Elizabeth and I will send in our first mortgage check—not a rent check—a mortgage check, and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Jay. “The Habitat program is a hand-up, not a hand-out. That phrase, and the action and attitude of this organization, changed my family’s life forever.

Habitat has had its best year yet. We’ve served 38 families, including 3 military veterans. And you, our amazing Habitat community, have volunteered 8,520 hours of your time. Thank you! We could not have done all of this without you.

In 2016, we were extremely fortunate to partner with families like Jay and Elizabeth’s. And we’re excited to serve twice as many families in 2017. Please use the enclosed envelope to send in your best gift today. It will help us purchase construction materials for next year’s houses. But none of this can happen without your financial support.

When you donate monthly, families know that they can count on you. You partner with Habitat to build strength, stability, and self-reliance. No matter how small—$5, $10, or $15—your donation matters. Your support will help hard-working families and individuals build better futures.
