Homeownership & Site Update

Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County has had a very productive March. The Fields at Highland Neighborhood, where the 2018 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project will take place has continued to have new construction in preparation for the event while the Homeownership Department has been hard at work finding the families that will be building and buying these homes at fair market value.

 

Homeownership Department

  • 24 families are accepted into the program and working towards their dream of homeownership
  • 472.25 hours of sweat equity were completed in March by future homeowners building their homes alongside volunteers
  • Homeownership education courses started

 

Construction Progress

  • Framing is completed for 10 of the 21 homes that will be worked on during the Carter Work Project
  • Plumbing has been installed for the 10 started homes
  • Garages for each home are being installed as weather improves

What you will see at the site as of February 2018.

  • Street lights are installed and running
  • A site wide fence has been installed
  • 7 of the two story homes that will be completed during the project week are being framed and weatherized for the elements
    • Each of the 21 homes will be at a different stage of completeness during the build week. Some will be at the very beginning stages of framing while others are scheduled to be finished during the project week.

 

What you will see at the site as of January 2018.

  • Each of the 21 foundations for every new home has been laid
  • Roads, sidewalks and curbs have been installed
  • 4 homes are under construction
    • At the start of the Carter Work Project week, each home will be at various stages of completeness. Some homes will be in the initial stage of building, while others will be completed by volunteers during the week.
