Photos taken during the 2016 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis.  

Since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have traveled around the world with Habitat, inspiring millions while working alongside nearly 100,000 volunteers in 14 countries as they built, renovated and repaired more than 4,000 homes. The 35th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project continues the mass build tradition in Mishawaka and South Bend, Indiana and is hosted by Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County.

During the Carter Work Project week, volunteers will work on building 21 new homes alongside Former President Jimmy Carter, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the future homeowners of the property.

Sunday, August 26

  • Volunteer information pick up & registry – 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
    • Located at the Double Tree Hotel
  • Opening Ceremony – 5 p.m
    • University of Notre Dame – Purcell Pavilion
    • Open to all volunteers & friends of Habitat


Monday – Friday, August 27-31

  • Build Site Construction 
    • 6:30 a.m.- Site opens
    • 7:00 a.m.- Breakfast, morning brief and devotions
    • 8:00 a.m.- Construction begins
    • 11:30 a.m.- Lunch shifts begin
    • 4:00 p.m.- Site clean up
    • 4:15 p.m.- Buses leave for hotel

Breakfast and lunch are provided at the build site

Tuesday, August 28

  • Evening event hosted for Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project volunteers


Wednesday, August 29

  • VIP Lunch- 12:00 p.m.
    • Build site


Friday, August 31

  • Closing Ceremony 5:00 p.m.
    • Century Center

Rates have been secured for Carter Work Project volunteers, and booking instructions will be provided.

Because of other events in South Bend, the Friday, Aug. 31, negotiated hotel room rate will be significantly more expensive.

Pick up and drop of at the South Bend Airport will be available at scheduled times.

Transportation to and from the Double Tree hotel to the work site will be provided Monday- Friday.

Transportation into South Bend & Mishawaka are the responsibility of the volunteer.
